Autism Insurance in Georgia – Ava’s Law
On April 29, 2015, Governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill 429 which states that certain insurance companies are mandated to provide coverage for the treatment of autism. HB 429, more commonly known as “Ava’s Law” has an effective date of July 1, 2015. The provision of Ava’s Law means that evidence based treatment, to include applied behavior analysis (ABA), is authorized for coverage by insurance companies. The treatment coverage is currently only available to children diagnosed with autism ages 6 years old and younger. There is a cap of $30,000 per year for treatment. Georgia was the 41st state to activate a law to mandate coverage for the treatment of autism spectrum disorders.
